"You Killed Bharat Mata In Manipur": Rahul Gandhi Attacks Centre
Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister over the ongoing unrest in Manipur which has claimed over a hundred lives.
Tumblr media
New Delhi: The BJP has “murdered India in Manipur” and is now trying to set Haryana on fire, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in Lok Sabha today in a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government.
Addressing the Lower House during the debate on the no-confidence motion against the BJP government, Mr Gandhi said, “India is a voice, a voice of the heart. You have killed that voice in Manipur. You have murdered Bharat Mata in Manipur. You are traitors. My mother is sitting here. The other mother, Bharat Mata, you killed her in Manipur. That is why Prime Minister does not visit Manipur. You are not protectors of Bharat Mata, you are her killers.”
“The Prime Minister has not gone to Manipur because he doesn’t consider it a part of India. You (BJP) have divided Manipur,” Mr Gandhi said, amid loud protests from the treasury benches. He alleged that the centre can stop the violence in Manipur by calling in the Army, but has not acted yet.
Invoking the epic Ramayana, Mr Gandhi said Ravan was not killed by Ram, but by his arrogance. “You have sprinkled kerosene everywhere, you have set fire to Manipur, you are now trying the same thing in Haryana,” he said, referring to recent communal clashes in Gurugram and Nuh that killed six people.
The remarks sparked a huge uproar in the House, with senior ministers demanding Mr Gandhi’s apology.
Earlier, Mr Gandhi said that when he set out on the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, he was confident of his fitness and did not expect it to be difficult. “But this country does not tolerate arrogance. Within a few days, an old injury resurfaced and I was in pain,” he said.
The Congress leader recounted how he derived strength and courage from the people he met during the march and also felt their pain and hardship. Mr Gandhi also recounted his conversations with two women in the relief camps set up to shelter those displaced due to ethnic violence in Manipur.

"Good News In 2 Days": Kamal Haasan On Lok Sabha Poll Alliance With DMK
In a run-up to the Lok Sabha Elections, Makkal Needhi Maiam president and actor Kamal Haasan said on Monday that an alliance announcement will be made within two days.
Tumblr media
While speaking to reporters at Chennai airport, the MNM chief, referring to preparations for the parliamentary polls, anticipated a "good opportunity" adding that the election works are going well.
"In two days I will meet you with good news. Work for the Parliament election are going well and we are hoping for a good opportunity. Regarding the alliance, we will announce the decision in two days," Kamal Haasan said.
Kamal Haasan reached Chennai Airport on Monday morning from the US after his upcoming movie 'Thug Life' preparation works there.
Earlier in September last year, DMK leader and Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin hinted at his party allying with Haasan's MNM ahead of the parliamentary polls.
"The party leaders will decide on the alliance (with Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam party) at the time of the elections," Udhayanidhi Stalin had said.
Also, Kamal Haasan had come in defence of Udhayanidhi Stalin during the 'Sanatana Dharma' controversy against the latter saying that a young child (Udhayanidhi) was being targeted just because he spoke about Sanatana.
Haasan formed MNM in 2018 but faced defeats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and 2021 Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.
Later, MNM extended support to the ruling DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance candidate during the by-polls in Erode.
Also, Haasan was seen alongside Congress MP Rahul Gandhi embarking on his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra when it reached Tamil Nadu earlier in December 2022.

Acharya Pramod Krishnam says ‘chamchagiri’ is a must to survive in the Congress
Acharya Pramod Krishnam opened up about his stance on leaders in Congress Party and said that Sachin Pilot and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are being disrespected in the party because Congress demands ‘chamchagiri’ to survive.
Krishnam, who was expelled from the party on Saturday, stated that he will stand by Prime Minister Narendra Modi throughout his life to support him in his endeavors to make a strong nation. Krishnam was expelled for ‘indiscipline’ and giving statements against the party.
In the latest statement, Krishnam praised PM Modi for the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. He also talked about Congress missing the event and quoted it as a bad gesture.
In response to a reporter’s question, Krishnam said, "Today, if one wants to remain in the Congress, it requires manipulation, chamchagiri (sycophancy) and lying." He further said, "Sachin Pilot is being insulted in Congress... he is swallowing poison like Lord Shiva. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is also being insulted."
"(Bharat Jodo Nyay) Yatra of Rahul Gandhi is going on for several days... why is Priyanka Gandhi not joining it, ask her," he said.
Krishnam was speaking at Kalki Dham where he also attacked Rahul Gandhi saying, "If a person cannot respect his mother and sister, how will he respect the country? One who could not handle his legacy, how will he handle the country?"
In a statement released by Congress general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal, Krishnam's expulsion from the party was announced. "Keeping in mind the complaint of indiscipline and repeated statements against the party, the Congress president has decided to expel Pramod Krishnam from the party for six years," Venugopal said.

"No Tie-Up With Congress": Mamata Banerjee's Bengal Twist Stuns INDIA Bloc
The Trinamool Congress will contest the elections for Bengal's 42 Lok Sabha seats on its own steam, and only consider a pan-India alliance with the Congress after results are declared, a furious Mamata Banerjee declared Wednesday. Ms Banerjee's words deliver what appears to be a final blow to hopes the two parties - widely seen as important members of the INDIA opposition bloc - will reach any agreement.
Tumblr media
"I had no discussions with the Congress. I have always said that in Bengal, we will fight alone. I gave them (the Congress) many proposals… but they rejected them. I am not concerned about what will be done in the (rest of the) country… but we are a secular party and, in Bengal, we alone will defeat BJP."
In further signs of fraying tempers, she also hit out at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and his 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra', which is expected to enter Bengal on Thursday but might skip Kolkata.
"They are coming to my state… but did not have courtesy to inform me, even though I am part of the INDIA bloc. So there is no relations with me, as far as Bengal is concerned," she told reporters.
Ms Banerjee has a good rapport with Congress matriarch Sonia Gandhi, but her ties with Mr Gandhi are seen as strained. She has made it clear, earlier too, she is against allowing her 'ally' to contest in Bengal.
"INDIA will be present in India (but) in Bengal the Trinamool Congress will fight. In Bengal it is only Trinamool that can teach the BJP a lesson. It can show the country the path to victory…" she had said.
Minutes later the Congress responded through comms boss Jairam Ramesh.
Mr Ramesh, who is with Rahul Gandhi and the yatra in Assam, said his party "cannot imagine INDIA bloc without Mamataji". Mr Ramesh insisted "all INDIA partners will unitedly fight Lok Sabha polls in Bengal".
Ms Banerjee's announcement has drawn a scathing jibe from the BJP's Amit Malviya, who called it a "sign of desperation". "Unable to hold her political ground, Mamata Banerjee wants to fight all seats, in the hope that she can still be relevant, after the polls…" the BJP's IT Cell boss posted on X.
The Trinamool vs Congress squabble over seat-sharing, and the larger picture of how INDIA might defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his BJP, has rumbled on for weeks with no apparent resolution, with neither side willing to back down. The Congress has, so far, ignored deadlines to close a deal.
On Tuesday Ms Banerjee criticised the Congress' "unjustified" demand for 10-12 Lok Sabha seats in her state; she had offered two, pointing to its' abysmal record. It won four seats in 2014 and only two in 2019.
A senior Trinamool leader, on condition of anonymity, told news agency PTI, "(Ms Banerjee) said, 'Don't think about seat-sharing with Congress'… she said she offered two seats but they demanded 10-12".
Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh last week warned the Congress against "unjustified bargaining".
Meanwhile, Ms Banerjee, in a show of strength, has directed party leaders in Birbhum and Murshidabad district to begin planning for the combined five Lok Sabha seats on their own. The latter is key because one of its three seats is Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's constituency of Berhampore.
Mr Chowdhury, the Congress' state unit boss, is fiercely opposed to sharing seats with the Trinamool, and has repeatedly attacked Ms Banerjee, despite efforts from leaders on both sides to stitch an alliance. He responded to the offer by declaring Ms Banerjee owed her success to the "mercy" of the Congress.
Rahul Gandhi, asked about these attacks, played them down, insisting "Mamata Banerjee is very close to me and our party" and that it is "natural", sometimes, for the two sides to criticise each other.
But they are not going to disrupt the relations between the Congress and the TMC," he insisted.
Meanwhile, away from Bengal, the Trinamool is also unhappy over the Congress' refusal to play second fiddle to regional parties when required. The Congress has already been criticised for this by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav after it refused to share seats for November's Madhya Pradesh election.
Ms Banerjee on Monday said the Congress was welcome to fight 300 seats on its own, but urged the party to surrender some seats to regional parties that will have the best chance of defeating the BJP.
"Particular regions should be left to regional parties. They can fight 300 seats alone… I will help them, I will not contest those seats… but they are adamant about doing what they want," she said.
"I have the power to take on the BJP, but some people don't want to listen to us about seat-sharing. If you don't want to fight the BJP, then at least don't give away seats to it," the fiery Trinamool leader said.
Ms Banerjee is one of the few opposition leaders to have enjoyed electoral success against the BJP in recent years, after orchestrating a statement win over the saffron party in the last Assembly election.
In 2019 too she ensured her party had an edge, winning 22 seats. That, though, was less than the 34 from five years ago. Ominously, BJP went from two to 18.

[ad_1] LUCKNOW: Will Congress's Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi start the UP leg of his Bharat Jodo Yatra 2. 0 from Ayodhya? The possibility is being explored very seriously, say Congress sources. The prospect is gaining ground with Rahul’s chief advisor and Rajiv Gandhi Foundation chief executive officer Vijay Mahajan paying a visit to the temple town. In fact, if sources are to be believed, Rahul may first offer prayers to Ram Lalla even though leaders in responsible positions maintained silence on the issue.“During the visit, Mahajan met Acharya Satyendra Das, the chief priest of Ramjanmabhoomi in his Satya Dham ashram at Ramghat. Mahajan was accompanied by several important members of Rahul Gandhi’s core team during the meeting,” they said.Sources added that Mahajan sought guidance from the seer for the Congress leadership. “The religious leader has reportedly advised Mahajan to develop collective leadership at the top level in Congress and avoid a negative attitude towards Ram temple and Sanatan culture,” said an insider. He further said that “Rahul Gandhi would come to Ayodhya very soon and seek the blessings of Ram Lalla”.Mahajan also met Mahant Janmejay Sharan of Janki Ghat Bada Sthan and Mahant Maniramdas associ-ated with Hanuman Garhi. Mahajan told media persons that his visit was purely personal and not political. On the possibility of Rahul coming to Ayodhya, Mahajan reportedly said: “Not only Rahul, anyone has the right to come to Ayodhya, pray in the darbar of Ram Lalla and Bajrangbali and worship the sacred Saryu. ”The second phase of the Bharat Jodo Yatra is set to begin very soon. Sources in Congress headquarters stated that Rahul was likely to spend more than two weeks in UP in the second phase of his yatra. “The route will cover some two dozen parliamentary seats,” they said, adding that the second phase of the Bharat Jodo yatra is likely to begin from Porbandar in Gujarat and is likely to end in Agartala, the capital of Tripura.!(function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) function loadFBEvents(isFBCampaignActive) if (!isFBCampaignActive) return; (function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) if (f.fbq) return; n = f.fbq = function() n.callMethod ? n.callMethod(...arguments) : n.queue.push(arguments); ; if (!f._fbq) f._fbq = n; n.push = n; n.loaded = !0; n.version = '2.0'; n.queue = []; t = b.createElement(e); t.async = !0; t.defer = !0; t.src = v; s = b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(t, s); )(f, b, e, ' n, t, s); fbq('init', '593671331875494'); fbq('track', 'PageView'); ; function loadGtagEvents(isGoogleCampaignActive) if (!isGoogleCampaignActive) return; var id = document.getElementById('toi-plus-google-campaign'); if (id) return; (function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) t = b.createElement(e); t.async = !0; t.defer = !0; t.src = v; t.id = 'toi-plus-google-campaign'; s = b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(t, s); )(f, b, e, ' n, t, s); ; window.TimesApps = window.TimesApps )( window, document, 'script', ); [ad_2]

'You can't talk about Rahul Gandhi without talking about Narendra Modi': Biographer
As former Congress president and MP Rahul Gandhi completes nearly two decades in Indian politics, author Sugata Srinivasaraju’s upcoming book traces Gandhi’s political evolution and his ideology.
Tumblr media
With the 2024 general elections looming large, newly-reinstated Lok Sabha MP and former Congress party president Rahul Gandhi faces possibly the greatest challenge of his nearly two-decade-long political career.
Fresh off the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the sixth-generation member of the Gandhi-Nehru family is seen as the de facto leader of the INDIA coalition, which is preparing to take on the might of the ruling BJP-led NDA coalition and by extension, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At this crucial juncture, journalist-writer Sugata Srinivasaraju’s upcoming book, Strange Burdens: The Politics and Predicaments of Rahul Gandhi (Penguin India; Rs 699), charts the evolution of Gandhi’s politics and ideology.
“I wasn’t planning to write this book. It was suggested by my publisher. I didn’t want to write a fully-fledged book yet, otherwise it would have been unfair to Rahul Gandhi. One needs time to meet him, interview him and search through the archival materials available. And he’s still young, has never held administrative positions — he hasn’t lived a full life yet. He hasn’t filled up the archives the same way someone like [former Prime Minister] HD Deve Gowda has. There were a lot of constraints. I’ll probably do a proper one at a later point,” says Srinivasaraju, who emphasises that Strange Burdens is more of a long-ish New Yorker style column, rather than a biography.
A veteran journalist with nearly three decades of experience, Srinivasaraju says the book is a political commentary. He makes it clear that he isn’t seeking to expose anybody, but rather show the readers alternative possibilities for the events that have transpired. “From day one of his political career, I have watched him — how he behaved between then and 2009, what happened in 2014 and 2019. So there’s that experience. You have a larger idea of how things have moved. I’m not a political scientist writing about Gandhi, but my profession has allowed me to look at him closely. That could be my strength but also my limitation. I have no pretensions about anything,” he explains, adding, “I don’t try to expose anybody, it’s not my style. Rather, I try to keep things out there and allow the readers to make sense of it and guide them to sort of see other possibilities as well.”
Despite the obvious significance of the book given the current political state of the country, Srinivasaraju stresses that Strange Burdens isn’t written with the intention to influence any conversation.
“It is taking a closer look at a very important political person at this juncture. Obviously, you cannot talk about Rahul Gandhi without talking about Narendra Modi. There are ample contrasts that come out of the book. But as a writer, I don’t fall into these easy polarising black-and-white elements. For me, grey is more interesting. I don’t think either Congress or the BJP will be able to make use of this book. I have my share of critics from both sides of the aisle,” he adds.
What Strange Burdens is doing, according to Srinivasaraju is looking at Gandhi with critical sympathy. “We only speak about his privileges, but we don’t speak about his burdens. It’s easy to say he’s a fifth-generation dynast, he’s this and that, and that he needs to vanish from the face of the earth. But he’s there because society allows him to, and his party allows him to. If the people want to reject him, they will,” says Srinivasaraju, adding that he is most impressed by Gandhi’s ability to weather the sheer amount of pain and trauma that he has endured in his personal life.
Long perceived as an ineffectual and inexperienced politician, Gandhi has previously faced criticism for being too conservative with his politics. So is Gandhi up to the challenge that faces him in 2024?
“In the last few years, he’s been sufficiently radical. He’s trying to be an iconoclast, trying to smash a few things. It’s unfair to call him conservative in that sense. In fact, if he was conservative, he would have survived better in the Congress Party, which itself is very conservative,” says Srinivasaraju.

Rajasthan Passes Bill For Social Security To "Gig Workers"
This article on 'Rajasthan Passes Bill For Social Security To Gig Workers' was written by Priyanka Jaipuria an intern at Legal Upanishad.
INTRODUCTION
After the USA, China, Brazil, and Japan, India has emerged as the fifth-largest marketplace for gig workforces worldwide. In an open marketplace model known as the “Gig Economy”, consumers or companies temporarily hire independent contractors. Contractual employees who are recruited and fired on a temporary basis might find work through the gig economy. The gig worker, as stated by Uber, Swiggy, Zomato, and others, does not have set working hours or a fixed place of employment; as a result, they are not covered by prevailing labour legislation. To avoid obligations like the minimum salary, the Provident Fund, and other benefits, they refer to their personnel as “delivery partners” instead of “employees”. The Bill is a welcome relief for Rajasthan’s gig workforce in this situation. It will make sure that the gig workforce has exposure to entitlements in accordance with the state government’s implied schemes. This article has examined the important aspects of the Rajasthan Government’s social security law for gig workers as well as the present necessity for it. The gig sector holds enormous potential for the development of the economy, but this is only possible if workers are given sufficient legal protections and liberties. Realizing this, the administration of Rajasthan passed the “Rajasthan Platform-Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Act, 2023” as the country’s first state legislation relating to the gig workforce.
RATIONALE BEHIND THE INTRODUCTION OF THE BILL
The law came about after social activist Nikhil Dey suggested it to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the latter’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan in December 2022. Subsequently, Rahul asked Gehlot to come up with social security and a support system for gig workers. During the February Budgeting Session, CM Ashok Gehlot presented the Bill and stated that “Currently, companies like Ola, Uber, Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon, etc. have engaged young workers on contract on a per-transaction basis. Such workers are called gig workers. Like elsewhere in the world, the scope of the gig economy is continuously growing in the state. Today, the number of gig workers in the state has increased to 3-4 lakh. These big companies do not make any arrangements for social security for these gig workers”. The Rajasthan government just enacted a substantial Bill on July 24 with the intention of expanding social security coverage to gig workers. According to the state government’s rationale for the legislation, “In spite of their major contribution to the economy and employment, gig workers form a part of unorganized workers and are still not covered under the labour laws. They do not receive the same level of protection as traditional employees get”.
WHO ARE GIG WORKERS?
A gig worker is a member of the labour force who receives compensation from sources other than the typical employer-employee relationship and who is employed by one or more platforms or aggregators, which include Swiggy, Zomato, Uber, Urban Company, etc., under the terms of a contract that specifies a certain rate of remuneration. They offer a range of services, including graphic design, website development, domestic services, e-commerce, and food delivery.
MAIN FEATURES OF THE BILL
Inclusion of Workers Categorized as Partners: The purpose of the legislation is to rectify the absence of protections and advantages for gig labourers, who were formerly considered “partners” instead of employees at organizations such as Ola, Swiggy, Zomato, etc. Fund for Social Security and Welfare: The state administration would create “The Rajasthan Platform-Based Gig Workers Social Security and Welfare Fund” in accordance with the bill’s terms for the betterment of the certified gig workforce. The money collected from the welfare cess imposed on an aggregator or employer will be deposited into the fund. Welfare Board for Gig Workforce: The interests and security of gig labourers in the state will be under the control of this board. The board would convene at least once every six months, with the Labour Minister serving as chairperson. Provision for Registration: Each gig labourer who is hired by aggregators (online middlemen that connect customers and service providers) or primary employers (who hire gig labourers directly) functioning in the territory of Rajasthan is required under the Bill to register before the Board. The Act mandates that every aggregator and employer enroll with the Board within 60 days of the Act’s effective date. Maintenance of an Extensive Database: The Rajasthan administration will keep an extensive record of every gig worker there. Every gig worker will receive a special ID that will make it easier to track their working history and benefits. Accessibility to Social Security Initiatives: The gig sector will have recourse to a variety of social security initiatives that include health care, accident protection, and other assistance programs to help out in times of need. Mechanism for Redressing Grievances: The Act guarantees that gig workers possess the right to be heard and that their complaints will be addressed. This clause aims to safeguard gig worker’s rights and give them a forum for resolving workplace-related conflicts. Penalties for Failure to Comply: The law contains provisions for fines in the event that aggregators fail to comply. Aggregators who do not pay the welfare fees by the deadline will be assessed interest at a rate of 12% per year. The state administration has the authority to punish aggregators up to Rs. 5 lakh for a first offense and up to Rs. 50 lakh for consecutive infractions of the Act.
SUGGESTIONS
The framing of a specific bill by the Rajasthan government dealing with gig workforces is a remarkable approach, and it becomes the duty of the state government to ensure proper implementation of the provisions and strict adherence to the guidelines of the legislation. For this purpose, proper maintenance of data relating to registration, funds, and other related matters is required. Not only the Rajasthan government but also the Central Government must make efforts to equalize the rights of this crucial sector so it may evolve further without leaning on exploitation.
CONCLUSION
People’s perspectives on employment have shifted as a result of the rapid growth of the gig market. The range of gig success in a place like India is broad and multilayered. It is encouraging to see that the government of Rajasthan has thought about putting light-touch regulations in place to strike a balance between business requirements and the expanding gig economy. Gig worker’s share of the workforce has increased significantly as a consequence of their benefits, which include the capacity to choose their own work schedule, shifts, breaks, and days of work. However, there is no specific statute or legal precedent addressing gig workforces under India’s labour laws. Employers have exploited this discrepancy all across the world. A sign of optimism for the acknowledgement of gig workers and their fundamental rights is Rajasthan’s recently enacted bill. Achieving social security for the gig economy will be made easier with the support of this recognition, which will also help aggregators better understand their obligations. The groundbreaking law, which is thought to open a fresh chapter in the history of worker rights, is truly urgently needed.

Congress Will "Decimate" BJP In Telangana, Other State Polls: Rahul Gandhi
Tumblr media
"We have shown in Karnataka that we can decimate the BJP," Rahul Gandhi said.New York: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said after the Karnataka election victory his party will “decimate” the BJP in Telangana and other state polls, emphasising that it is not just the Congress party but the people of India who are going to defeat its hate-filled ideology.“We have shown in Karnataka that we can decimate the BJP…We did not defeat them, we decimated them. We smashed them in Karnataka,” Mr Gandhi said at a dinner event organised here Saturday by the Indian Overseas Congress-USA.Mr Gandhi arrived in New York after visiting Washington and San Francisco and will address a community rally at the Javits Centre in Manhattan on Sunday. He said in the Karnataka elections, the BJP “tried everything in the book, they had the entire media, they had 10 times the amount of money we had, they had the government, they had the agency. They had everything and then we decimated them,” Gandhi said.“And I want you to know that we are going to decimate them in Telangana next,” he said to loud cheers and applause from the gathering.“It will be hard to find the BJP in Telangana after this election.” Election in the southern Indian state is scheduled to be held later this year.Congress supporters, officials, party members and members of the Indian community gathered in large numbers at the community event that was also attended by New York City Mayor Eric Adams.Apart from the Telangana election, there are elections scheduled for “Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh where we will do the same we did to them in Karnataka,” Gandhi said to cheers and applause from the supporters.“It is not just the Congress party that is going to defeat the BJP. It is the people of India, the people of Madhya Pradesh, the people of Telangana, the people of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh who are going to defeat the BJP,” Mr Gandhi said.He added that the reason for this is that “India has understood that it cannot go forward with the type of hatred that the BJP is spreading in society.” “That is what is going to happen in the next few states. And then after that in 2024 we will do the same…The opposition is united, we are all working together. It is an ideological battle. On one side, there is a divisive ideology of the BJP, the hate-filled ideology of the BJP. On the other side, there is the affectionate, loving ideology of the Congress party,” he said.He said in Karnataka, the BJP tried to polarise the election and create anger and hatred between communities.“Prime Minister himself tried it. Did it work,” he said as the audience replied no.Mr Gandhi said the people of Karnataka declared that the election is about prices, unemployment and corruption.Mr Gandhi referred to his slogan made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, during which he had said “Nafrat ke bazaar mein mohabbat ki dukan kholenge.” Adams said the “New Delhi of America is right here in New York City." “This community is one of the most highly-educated, one of the most highly business operated and owned,” he said, adding that what is unique about America is that, “we tell you never give up your homeland as you embrace your adopted land,” amid a round of applause and cheers from those gathered.“You are Indian-(dash)Americans. As you embrace America, do not remove the Indian part,” the NYC Mayor said.He added that India “historically has given so much not only to the geographical boundaries of your country but what the Indian community historically has given to the globe is just remarkable and has yet to truly be reflected in historical proportions.“All of the great Nobel peace prize winners have basically borrowed from the rich history of your society,” he said, adding that they have drawn inspiration from the ancient Vedas and early writings.Earlier in the day, Mr Gandhi “had a thought-provoking fireside chat” with leading thinkers of New York at Roosevelt House, home of former US President, Franklin D Roosevelt.Mr Gandhi said the members of the Indian community in the US are “our ambassadors” and have shown America and the rest of the world “what it means to be Indian.” He said there is a fight going on back home and a similar fight also in America about two different visions for India. “One vision which is our vision - accepts everybody, embraces everybody, respects everybody, loves everybody, and wants everybody to be a part of the future of our country regardless of their religion, their community, their caste, their language.“We are fighting our friends in the BJP…they have a very limited view of our country,” he said.Addressing the audience at the event, Mr Gandhi said: “You respect other religions. You respect other cultures. You respect other people, you respect women. And that is the best way to fight the BJP, to live according to the ideology that we believe in,” he said, adding that the fight is not difficult. Source link Read the full article
